Where to Go and What to See in Scotland in the AutumnAutumn can be the best season in Scotland. The weathe can be crisp, but clear, warm days and sunny skies. A good time to explore the countryside before winter arrives. There are castles and historic houses, gardens and whisky distilleries. It's also a good time to be active - parks can have all kinds of activities nearby - walking, cycling, pony-trekking, white-water rafting, and even sand-surfing, all designed for both the novice and the experienced. Whether or not you are a history buff, Scotland's colourful heritage can be fascinating. It is encapsulated in our historic buildings; visit Brodie Castle in Moray or Neidpath Castle in the Borders, as well as Edinburgh Castle and Blair Atholl in Perthshire. The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland have many castles, historic houses, abbeys and gardens in their care and you can buy special passes which are excellent value for money (check out Links on this website). There are many other interesting places to visit, including beautiful gardens (Glenwhan, Inverewe and Crarae), heritage museums and whisky distilleries, some of them producing famous malts -Glenkinchie, Bladnoch, Glengoyne and Dewar's World of Whisky are just a few. If you've not visited the new Robert Burns Centre near Ayr, this is the time to do so; it has already attracted thousands of visitors. On this website, we have tried to give you a flavour of each region to help you decide where to go and which park to base yourself on for your autumn break.
